Q & A by Saul Landau

In April 1961, the CIA sent a force of Cuban exiles to overthrow the Cuban government. This resulted in the Bay of Pigs Fiasco. Fifty years later, a new documentary shows that US-backed violence against Cuba continued for decades. Thenew film, with Danny Glover, anti-Cuba terrorists, and Fidel Castro himself (filmed recently) is combined with fascinating archival footage and a rare recorded interview from prison with one of the Cuban 5. These men are serving long sentences in US prisons for trying to stop terrorism against tourist sites in their country.

“Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up!”provides every professor and specialist with an invaluable teaching and learning tool about US-Cuba policy and the history of terrorism in that policy. It also explains the story of and context for the”Cuban 5,” the Cuban agents who penetrated Miami exile groups to stop their plans for violence against the island, and ended up in US prisons.” Julia Sweig, Nelson and David Rockefeller Senior Fellow for Latin America Studies and Director for Latin America Studies at theCouncil on Foreign Relations.

“It’s a real Who’s Who of key figures in the more than half-century-long grudge match over Cuba.” Tracey Eaton former Dallas Morning News’ Bureau Chief, Havana

“Will the Real Terrorist Please Stand Up!” produced by Emmy-Award Winner Saul Landau. Won loud applause at the Havana Film Festival.

Co-sponsored by Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists and the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban 5  www.thecuban5.org

FILMMAKER IN PERSON! This film chronicles half a century of hostile US-Cuba relations by telling the story of “the Cuban Five”: intelligence agents sent to penetrate Cuban exile terrorist groups in Miami who are now serving long prison sentences.WILL THE REAL TERRORIST PLEASE STAND UP? highlights decades of assassinations and sabotage at first backed – then ignored – by the very government that launched a “War on Terror”. From the Bay of Pigs to multiple attempts on Fidel Castro’s life, a question is raised: what did Cuba do to deserve such hostile treatment?

This new documentary chronicles half a century of hostile US-Cuba relations by telling the story of the Cuban five, intelligence agents sent to penetrate Cuban exile terrorist groups in Miami and now serving long prison sentences. The film highlights decades of assassinations and sabotage at first backed then ignored by the very government that launched a war against terrorism. In the film, viewers see leading terrorists, now in their 80s, recounting their deeds, and Cuban state security officials explaining why they infiltrated agents into violent Miami exile groups. The film, featuring Danny Glover and 84 year old Fidel Castro in key scenes, raises and tries to answer the question: what did Cuba do to deserve such hostile treatment? It traces key events from the Bay of Pigs and Cuban Missile Crisis, through multiple assassination attempts on Fidel Castro s life. This documentary reveals a story of violence that also echoed on the streets of Washington DC, New York and especially Miami where Cuban American critics of the bombers and shooters also wound up dead.
